Akima is seeking a skilled Telecommunications Network Engineer to join our team at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. This role is crucial for ensuring that our military customer’s telecommunications services and devices operate seamlessly. The ideal candidate will possess expert knowledge of telecommunication systems and will play a vital role in designing, implementing, and maintaining complex network infrastructures that support critical military operations.
Responsibilities
- Project Management: Oversee Outside Plant/Inside Plant (OSP/ISP) project management, quality control, and final testing for all Information Management Directorate (IMD) telecom projects.
- Design Maintenance: Conduct provisioning and maintenance of design drawings for OSP/ISP.
- Installation Support: Assist in the maintenance of ISP installations and new equipment, including network hardware and data center support.
- Compliance: Research and integrate local power codes and policies into network designs.
- Site Surveys: Conduct proposed project site surveys and review ‘As-Built’ plans for compliance with engineering requirements.
- Technical Guidance: Provide engineering support for telecommunication issues including CCTV and intrusion detection systems.
- Problem Solving: Identify and resolve OSP/ISP-related engineering challenges with innovative solutions.
- Cost Estimation: Generate project cost estimates and material lists for proposals.
- Network Implementation: Plan, design, implement, and troubleshoot telecommunication systems and networks.
- Vendor Coordination: Assist in vendor selection and management, developing technical documentation for Requests for Proposals (RFP).
- Customer Support: Provide consultative support on voice communications and assist internal customers with network changes.
- Diagram Creation: Produce telecommunications network diagrams in 2D or 3D as needed.
- Product Research: Stay informed about various telecommunication products and services.
Qualifications
- Citizenship & Clearance: US Citizenship and active Secret Clearance are required.
- Education: Associate degree in Engineering or a related field (Electrical/Electronics Engineering or Telecommunications Engineering).
- Experience: Minimum of three years of experience in telecommunications engineering, including network design, implementation, and troubleshooting.
- Licensing: Must obtain a Kuwait Driver’s License (KDL) or International Driver’s Permit.
- Certifications: Must acquire one of the following certifications within 90 days of hire:
- BICSI OSP Designer
- FTTx-OSP Design
- Certified Outside Plant Fiber Optic Specialist
- BICSI ITS Technician or equivalent
- Technical Skills: Proficient in producing Bills of Materials (BOM) and network diagrams using AutoCAD or similar platforms.
- Documentation: Experience in developing Statements of Work (SOW) and Performance of Work Statements (POW).
Desired Qualifications:
- Familiarity with outside plant facilities, cable sizing, and record maintenance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Projects, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Experience with 3D AutoCAD design preferred.
- Knowledge of systems design (CCTV, CATV, IPTV, etc.).
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
