Atlassian is on the lookout for a Senior Manager to lead our Solutions Engineering (SE) team in the Strategic market segment across EMEA. In this critical role, you will shape a rapidly growing team and drive a key function within our sales organization. Our Solutions Engineering team works hand in hand with direct and channel sales teams to deliver technical expertise, helping qualify and close high-value opportunities while influencing customers’ purchasing decisions across the entire Atlassian product suite.

As the leader of the EMEA Strategic Solutions Engineering, you will focus on building credibility with technical leaders in our customer organizations. You’ll develop cross-functional strategies that help customers unlock the full potential of Atlassian’s “System of Work” Platform. With your technical knowledge, leadership skills, and strategic thinking, you will guide customers through their complex business challenges by demonstrating the value of our solutions.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and Inspire: Mentor a growing team of sales engineers while fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Training Programs: Develop training initiatives to enhance both technical and professional sales skills within your team.
  • Optimize Processes: Build and refine processes that support rapid growth and expansion within the team and the business.
  • Thought Leadership: Collaborate with various internal teams to create effective models for the Strategic market segment.
  • Function Buildout: Establish scalable functions that address business needs while providing comprehensive Solutions Engineering coverage.
  • Performance Metrics: Set performance metrics and conduct regular evaluations to ensure the team meets and exceeds its goals.

Strategic Planning & Execution

  • Collaboration: Work closely with senior leadership to define and execute sales engineering strategies aligned with the Strategic market segment.
  • Metrics Management: Establish key performance indicators to effectively manage the business and optimize SE resources.
  • Market Opportunities: Identify and prioritize key market opportunities to capture new business and expand existing accounts.
  • Resource Alignment: Ensure proper resource allocation and effective skill set utilization within assigned regions.
  • Goal Alignment: Align sales engineering activities with the company’s overall goals and objectives.

Customer Engagement & Solution Design

  • High-Impact Sales Pursuits: Engage with customers across EMEA at various levels, including Enterprise Architects and C-suite executives, maintaining relationships throughout their journey.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical expertise during sales presentations, demonstrations, and proof-of-concept engagements.
  • Pipeline Generation: Collaborate with marketing to align on effective pipeline generation strategies and create new prospecting opportunities.
  • Seamless Integration: Ensure the smooth deployment of solutions, addressing any technical issues that may arise.
  • Executive Alignment: Foster strong relationships with key resources across the partner and channel community.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Internal Collaboration: Work closely with product management, marketing, and R&D to develop solutions that meet market demands and customer feedback.
  • Customer Needs Communication: Act as a liaison between sales engineering and other departments to relay customer needs and market trends.
  • Feedback Loop: Maintain a feedback loop with product teams to influence roadmap investment priorities.
  • Technical Collateral: Drive the creation of technical materials, including whitepapers, case studies, and solution briefs.

Market & Industry Expertise

  • Industry Insights: Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies to provide strategic insights and recommendations.
  • Cultural Understanding: Understand local market nuances, including cultural and business practices across the global customer base.
  • Industry Representation: Represent Atlassian at industry conferences and events, showcasing our solutions and thought leadership.
  • Stakeholder Relationships: Develop and maintain strong relationships with key industry stakeholders and partners.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Experience: 8+ years in sales engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within a global, high-growth technology environment.
  • Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field; an MBA or advanced technical degree is preferred.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead diverse teams to achieve ambitious goals, leveraging organizational networks for effective execution.
  • Relationship Building: Passion for building business relationships and simplifying complex concepts into compelling proposals for customers.
  • Innovative Thinking: A strong drive for results using innovative problem-solving skills.
  • Team Leadership: Ability to enhance team effectiveness through situational leadership and a focus on collaboration.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and oral communication skills, with effective time management abilities.
  • Relevant Background: Ideally, experience in solutions selling to Software Development or IT executives, with knowledge of integration and partnership ecosystems.
  • Remote Management: Experience managing distributed remote teams is a plus.
