Canonical, a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, is seeking a Cloud Support Associate Engineer to join our dynamic team. This is a remote position designed for individuals eager to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment while providing exceptional support for our Ubuntu platform.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support for employees, managing new cases through telephone, email, and web communication.
- Serve as an internal advocate for customers, ensuring timely updates and communications.
- Handle support cases with a focus on meeting Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and achieving high customer satisfaction.
- Contribute to the knowledge base by drafting and maintaining articles to share insights and solutions.
- Draft technical notices for internal and external communication.
- Prioritize tasks to focus on the most urgent issues.
- Continuously learn as Canonical’s products and services evolve.
- Understand the Ubuntu development process to set accurate customer expectations regarding fixes.
- Maintain regular communication with team members, both locally and remotely.
- Identify and suggest improvements for service delivery.
- Participate in a weekend working rotation as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent four-year degree in a technical field (preferable majors: Computer Science, MIS, Electrical Engineering).
- Experience with Linux troubleshooting, including log collection and configuration file edits.
- Strong Linux server administration skills.
- Solid understanding of cloud computing concepts (e.g., provisioning, monitoring, orchestration).
- Basic hands-on experience in at least two of the following: virtualization/cloud technologies, containers, storage technologies, networking (bonding, firewalling, etc.), or programming fundamentals (e.g., bash, Perl, Ruby, JavaScript, C/C++, Go).
- Ability to learn quickly and thrive in a customer-facing role under pressure.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Willingness to travel (background check required).
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience supporting virtualized environments (KVM, Virtual Box, VMWare).
- Familiarity with other open-source desktop technologies.
- Active contribution to open-source projects or forums.
